The Summer Open Day consists of three parts: a presentation on the way SUSTech fosters future innovative talents, the introduction of SUSTech majors, and campus tours. By utilizing online video streaming technologies, the open day managed to reach a wider audience across the nation.
At 9 a.m., the presentation of how SUSTech fosters innovative talents took place in the lecture hall of Research Building #1. Hosted by Vice Provost Huang Kefu, the presentation consists of campus introductions by Vice President Tang Tao, iCollege Acting Dean Liu Ke, Mathematics Department Head Xia Zhihong and Global Engagement Office Director Hou Shengtao.
Tang Tao warmly welcomed the visitors and made a speech on how SUSTech was characterized by elite education, a global view, and individuality. By introducing SUSTech's achievements at home and abroad, Tang Tao brought out the mission of SUSTech's undergraduate education: to contribute to the urban development and societal progress of China, to become a model of China's education reform, and to be the hub of future talents with patriotism, global vision and innovate thinking.
Liu Ke and Xia Zhihong introduced their college and department respectively and shared their academic experience. Hou Shengtao then presented a list of overseas academic exchange programs at SUSTech, with exchange programs operating in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Asia attracting a lot of attention from prospective SUSTech students.
Additionally, Class of 2018 representatives Chen Wanli and Zhong Benxin were invited to talk about their four years at SUSTech. Chen will begin his doctoral studies in a world-class laboratory at the Chinese University of Hong Kong, while Zhong was admitted to a master's program in France after finishing all SUSTech courses in only three years.
Next, representatives from 15 departments, schools and colleges introduced their respective institutions and took many questions from students and parents, who also toured the campus shortly after. Since June is when the lychee fruit is ripe, SUSTech offered fresh campus-grown lychees to all visitors. The visitors were also offered tasty food made by chefs at SUSTech cafeterias.
Prospective students and family members are all very happy with the SUSTech experience, and they all hope the students excel in the upcoming independent recruitment test and enroll in SUSTech in the fall.
