MEE Discipline Intro Conference successfully held - News & Events - SUSTC Department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering

On April 27th, 2017, department of Mechanical and Energy Engineering held a Discipline Introduction Conference at room 111 in library. All the professors from MEE department has attended the conference and more than 100 students were attracted to it. The conference was hosted by the department Chair, Professor Yiming Rong.
Professor Rong first introduced Mechanical Engineering by exemplification, such as mechanical products, mechatronic products, robots, fuel cells. MEE has obtained the approval of foundation in March and the three major streams are robotics and automation, innovative design and advanced manufacture, and Energy Egnineering.
THen, Professor Rong introduced the faculty members. Within the first year of MEE, many outstanding talents, such as "CAS cademician" and "The Recruitment Program of Global Experts", have joined MEE. Professors introduced their research area and lab construction progress respectively and many students showed great interests in mechanical engieering. Some of them hope that they could have the oppotunities to join the lab in advance and conduct further study.
Professor Rong introduced the Intelligent manufacture lab, staff and research area. Professor Qiang Zhu introduced formation manufacture and 3D printing lab. Started by his own experience, he talked about his research, lab group and one of his students, Shutao Cai, who lead a design team of 3D printed robotic arm. Assistant Professor Shaolin Xu has introduced his precision machining research and group and courses. Professor Rong talked on behalf of Associate Professor Chenglong Fu abou this robotics research group and automation lab, such as wearable robots and sensoring, humanoid robots and exo-skeleton robots. Professor Wende Ke talked about the robot competition and the benefits of it.
Research Assistant Profess Youkun Tao introduced his energy engieering lab. He said that new energy is a leading engineering project of our nation.
Finally, Professor Rong made an emphasis on the future life after graduation, which is most concerned by the students. He said that MEE department focused on fundamental education, innovation and practice and the department will provide internship oppotunities such as factory, companies and R&D department. Thus, studetsn can continue their study, work or start up a company.
At Q&A time, studetns asked questions about employment, lab oppotunities and summer internship and practice. Questions were patiently answered by professors and they welcome students to join MEE department and enter the labs. Through this conference, students obtained understanding of MEE and its future.
